Program

Objectives

It aims to cultivate creative architects who (1) have a good command of basic theories and concepts of architecture, and techniques of architecture design;  and (2) are competent in

undertaking tasks of architecture design, and doing scientific research on architecture.

Requirements of Research Ability and Other Aspects

Candidates are required to collect and do investigation on data and information actively. Candidates are also expected to be of the ability to analyze, summarize and criticize relevant subjects, and conduct researches on architecture. Candidates are also supposed to be skillful at using designing software.

Prior to the degree application, candidates shall meet one of the following requirements:

1.   Publishing at least one paper in professional conference proceedings at or above provincial-level, or attending professional academic conferences and receiving at least one invitation for presenting their papers ( Note: For the papers, Xiamen University must be the first-author affixation, and candidates shall be the first-author or second author with the supervisor being the first).

2.  Participation in architectural desi gn competitions at or above provincial-level and winning the first, second or third prize, or a honorable mention for at least one time (Note: Xiamen University must be the first-author affixation, and only the first three prize-winners are recognized.)

3. Publishing at least one paper in specialized journals with CN serial numbers ( Note: For the papers, Xiamen University must be the first-author affixation, and candidates shall be

the first-author or second author with the supervisor being the first).

Candidates  are  required  to  attend  at least 20 academic lectures or reports.

Candidates shall submit the attendance record at  the  beginning of     the     fifth     semester     to     t he

supervisor for evaluation.

Mid-term Assessment

Candidates are required to introduce briefly the periodical outcomes, existing problems and working plan of the thesis writing.

It is held by the end of the fourth semester.

Candidates shall report to the supervisor team with PPT presentation, and submit the mid-term  assessment  report  to  the

college for the record.

Thesis Proposal

A thesis proposal shall include the purposes, the significance, the existing problems, the status quo and the main contents of the thesis.

It is held at the end of the third semester.

Candidates shall report to  the supervisor team with a PPT presentation, and fill out the Thesis Proposal Examination Form and submit it to the

college for the record.

Thesis

The thesis shall be of high-level academic significance and shall demonstrate that the candidate has had an in-depth comprehension of the basic theories of the chosen field, and the ability to detect, analyze and

solve problems. The research methods adopted and the academic outcomes achieved shall be innovative.
